Piggy-back braids

Style: Piggy-back braids

Products used: Mix of water/Tug Me Not conditioner (Blended Cuties), Taliah Waajid Strengthener and TW Lock It Up. Sprayed the final style with TW Protective Mist Bodifier and will continue to use PM B daily.

Tools needed: Wide tooth comb, pin tail comb, alligator clips, rubber bands, spray bottle with water/conditioner mix.

Tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzLAeV59UwE

Initial impression: Cute, cute, cute! Makes Sophia look older . I like the fact that there are only five bands (vs. the many bands used with the veil style and box braids). I’ll be interested to see how the long it lasts before the fuzz sets in. This is definitely a style that will require the sleep cap to keep it looking nice.

Tips/thoughts for next time: Try parting the hair in this order: 1. Front to back (down the center). 2. Ear to ear. 3. Front section. 4. Back section. (This time around I parted from ear to ear, did the front boxes and then the back…neither an efficient nor really effective approach. Clearly I’m still working out my strategy!) Start front braids closer to hairline instead of pulling them back so far. Take your time to make the transition to the new box; this will prevent twisting and/or loose pieces

Welcome to "Learning About African American Hairstyles'!

I'm starting this blog as a way to share what I learn about African American hairstyles, products and accessories. I adopted my daughter, Sophia, at birth -- her hair has always been her crowing glory and I'm working hard to keep it that way. To make that happen, I'm school myself in sytles, products, regimens and accessories. I've found some great information, but it's not as consolidated as I would've hoped. So I've started this blog as a way to organize information and resources for myself and to share what I learn with others!
